With the arrival of Former Chief Judge and retired Presiding Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, Brian Rickman, and former Georgia Court of Appeals Staff Attorney Emma “Maggie” Hastings to Cathey & Strain, the firm has added a new appellate practice to better serve clients from both Cathey and Strain and other plaintiffs’ firms.
Brian Rickman served as elected District Attorney for nine years, prosecuting and supervising felony cases. Eventually, he would serve as Chief Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, during which time he authored hundreds of appellate opinions, helping shape the law in areas such as wrongful death, medical malpractice, product liability and catastrophic injury.
Brian joins the firm on Monday, July 20.
As Assistant District Attorney, Emma “Maggie” Hastings prosecuted high-profile criminal cases, as well as a wide range of other felony and misdemeanor matters. She went on to serve as a staff attorney on the Georgia Court of Appeals, working with Judge Rickman, where she analyzed and helped resolve a full range of criminal and civil appeals, drafting opinions, handling motions, and building deep expertise in Georgia appellate practice, legal research and complex issue analysis.
Together Rickman and Hastings bring almost four decades of public service in prosecutorial and appellate work to Cathey & Strain, enhancing services the firm already provides across medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, and products liability cases.
